The word "AcuPolarity" in AcuPolarity Wellness Center, is a synthesis of the type of bodywork we can incorporate into the massage session. "Acu" is for the various forms of acupressure massage including shiatsu, Zen shiatsu, Thai massage, Tui-na, Jin shin and Moxibustion therapy that we do. Acupressure utilizes the same theory and points used in acupuncture, but without the use of needles. The Therapeutic massage benefits are enhanced and last longer when done along with acupressure points.
"Polarity" is for the energy based massage and bodywork techniques from Polarity Therapy, a complete holistic health care system founded by Dr. Randolph Stone, D.O.,D.C.,N.D. Polarity therapy also includes polarity yoga, polarity diet and awareness enhancement methods.
The techniques Dr. Stone developed, and which I regularly use, are largely based on traditional osteopathic methods. They may include light, medium or even fairly deep pressure on various points on the body, including joints, tendon and ligament attachments to joints, as well as rocking the body and moving limbs while applying pressure to these points. This has the effect of freeing up movement and ‘unblocking’ areas of tension and adhesion.
What makes these techniques unique to Polarity Therapy, is that while doing so, the practitioner is often making contact with a corresponding area in another part of the body, so the primary are of pain and dysfunction releases more easily and completely than would be the case if the practitioner only worked the primary pain area without ‘grounding out the tension’ through a Polarity contact.
This way of working produces a quicker and more effective therapeutic result than would be the case if these techniques and Polarity Therapy ways of working were not part of the massage therapy session.
In addition using Polarity Therapy, I combine acupressure points with Polarity Therapy and therapeutic massage to once again increase the therapeutic result of the bodywork. Acupressure shares the same system as acupuncture, but uses massage techniques instead of needles to access the points. The forms of acupressure and related Asian modalities that we use include Shiatsu, Thai Massage and Tui-na.
Polarity Therapy has a yoga component. If clients wish to have some home-based ways to improve their condition, we give clients yoga-based exercises to do, many of which are a part of Polarity Yoga. Those who already enjoy therapeutic massage are very appreciative of this work, because it may be easily integrated into a massage session, providing all the muscle relaxing of massage with deeply relaxing energetic balancing.
