Myofascial Release is the therapeutic massage technique associated with Myofascial Pain Syndrome, and is based on the work of John F. Barnes, PT, an internationally recognized physical therapist, lecturer, author and the leading authority on Myofascial Release.
These methods are similar to ones we use as part of Polarity Therapy, where we use and energetic unwinding process to release tension in a very gentle way with clients who prefer light pressure, or it can be done with much deeper pressure if that is your preference. Myofascial therapy works with the fascia, which is the ‘shrink wrap’ surrounding the muscle and muscle fibers. The fascia can get sticky. Often muscle pain is described as the presence of adhesions in the tissues. This therapy helps smooth out the tension in the fascia and the muscles.
